Home-Start Brentwood has at present around 33 volunteers.

Volunteers are introduced to a family whom they then continue to visit on a regular basis - supporting the parents, playing with the children, sometimes being the only adult company a parent has during the day.

All volunteers must have parenting experience and undergo a short preparation course before going out to visit families.

The preparation course covers such areas as listening skills, child protection, confidentiality and equal opportunities, childhood illnesses etc.

There are often guest speakers from the health service and other related areas.

Volunteers have remarked that they find the training enjoyable and informative and often make new friends along the way.

Volunteers are reimbursed for their traveling costs.

All volunteers are offered support by the organiser/s together with the support of other volunteers.  We regularly arrange Volunteers Support Meetings, social events and ongoing training.
