Home-Start Brentwood helps families in a variety of ways and due to its enthusiastic team is always looking for ways to expand and develop its services and to secure further funding.

Home-Visiting carried out by Volunteers is at the core of Home-Start's service.  A volunteer is matched with a family and visits once a week (or more) offering support and encouragement.  Volunteers and families often become firm friends and relationships have in some cases continued long after Home-Start's support has ceased.

Family Group Twice a month during term times we hold a Family Group for our families at Shenfield Parish Hall in Shenfield, near Brentwood.  This is run on the lines of a mother and toddler group and transport is provided for those with no means to get there.

The family group enables many children to have a chance to run around and play with other children and learn their first social skills.  Also bearing in mind that many of our families are living in small flats the opportunity to play like this is very limited.

For the parents, Family Group provides the opportunity to make friends whilst their children are enjoying themselves.

Activities and Outings Each year Home-Start Brentwood puts on an outing either to a zoo or the seaside where the families can relax and have fun with their children.  We are always looking for sponsorship to fund such events. What about Funding

Parents Workshops This is a new project for Home-Start Brentwood which we have been able to run due to funding from the National Lotteries Charity Board.  Parents can attend workshops whilst their children are looked after in a crèche.  Workshops will cover subjects such as child development, managing difficult behavior, health and healthy eating, self esteem and assertiveness training, and even some basic I.T. skills.
